It was at the Montreal Olympic Games 1976 that she scored one of the greatest moment in the history of sports - the score of the first ever perfect 10 on the bars that were asymmetrical. Furthermore, she had six other perfect 10s, making her, at 14 years old the youngest Olympic medallist in every category. She has not only drawn attention in all directions but also helped Romania get a foothold in the world map. Achieving an unattainable score has made her a sports celebrity and brought gymnastics to the forefront of the entire world. The public's opinion of female sportspeople was changed by this achievement. Such was her impact at her participation in the Olympics that even the uneven bar event includes two movements named in honor of her toe-on and release, both of which are, till date, classified as high-level and level. In addition to the Olympics her performance was impressive. She also showed outstanding performances in the World Championships and European Championships too, making her an icon in the sport and amongst the most well-known gymnasts anyone could have.
